Jose Acevedo Allegedly Crashes Car Into Bedroom Of His Wife

Man Allegedly Crashes Van In Attempt To Kill Wife

A Florida man was charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault after allegedly crashing a minivan into a room containing his wife and son.

Police say Jose Luis Acevedo, 41, knew that his wife and their 7-year-old son were inside the master bedroom of their Cape Coral home Tuesday morning when he drove his vehicle into the outside wall, NBC-2 reported.

He then allegedly went into the house and proceeded to beat his wife with an aluminum baseball bat in front of his son.

Acevedo stopped the attack when his wife cried, "I love you. Don't kill me," law enforcement officials told ABC-7. He then called 911.

Police say Acevedo told them that he had wanted his wife to die and "broke her head," according to ABC-7. He also noted that he "saw stuff coming out of the back of her head," according to an arrest report obtained by the News Press.

The woman was taken to a hospital where she was treated for skull injuries, forearm fractures, and multiple bruises and wounds.

Acevedo appeared in court Wednesday, WINK News reported, there was some confusion when prosecutors were unsure whether his wife was alive or dead, and therefore did not know if Acevedo's charge should be charged with murder or attempted murder. His first appearance was postponed for an additional 24 hours.

Officials determined that Acevedo's wife is still alive. According to NBC-2, she is expected to survive.
