Oprah On Forgiveness: This Definition Was ‘Bigger Than An Aha Moment' (VIDEO)

WATCH: The Forgiveness Aha That Changed Oprah's Life

After 25 years and more than 30,000 guests, Oprah says it was one man's definition of forgiveness on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” that changed her life.

That man was a guest who appeared on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” in 1990. When defining forgiveness, he said, “It really means letting go of the past we thought we wanted.”

More than a decade later, this definition of forgiveness still resonates with Oprah. “That was a transcendent moment for me -- bigger, even, than an aha [moment],” she says in this clip from "Oprah's Lifeclass". “He said forgiveness is giving up the hope that the past could be any different.”

This simple advice on how to forgive gave Oprah an entirely new perspective. “It took me to the next level of being a better person,” she says. “I don’t hold grudges for anything or any situation -- and neither should you. [Forgiveness] is letting go so that the past does not hold you prisoner.”
