Daft Punk Ad Airs During 'SNL,' Tells Us Nothing (VIDEO)

WATCH: Daft Punk Reveals New Music

Saturday's "Saturday Night Live" was hosted by Kevin Hart and featured rapper Macklemore as a musical guest, but it was a 15-second advertisement that dominated headlines for the rest of the weekend. A Daft Punk ad aired during the show, teasing a new track and an already famous diptych of the helmets worn by French electro legends Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter.

The music in the clip is predictably funky -- a far cry from the bass-driven bangers of the electronic dance music dominating the broader genre today.

Though no further details were provided in the advertisement, it's clear that something is afoot at Daft Punk's camp. The duo inked a new deal with Columbia records and confirmed the development by posting the same photo on their Facebook page and website.

A new album comes at a good time for Daft Punk. Many of the groups and artists inspired and indebted to de Homem-Christo and Bangalter have recently released projects, including Justice and Kavinsky. Daft Punk's last studio album, 2005's "Human After All," topped the U.S. dance charts. A live follow-up record, "Alive 2007" also made it to No. 1 on the dance chart. They also scored "Tron: Legacy" in 2010.

The duo has been working with Chic's Nile Rodgers and Oscar-winner Paul Williams on their forthcoming album, which has no publicly available title or release date.

Daft Punk is known for an eclectic, genre-bending blend of electro, funk and dance music. The influence of seminal hits like "One More Time," "Around the World" and "Technologic" continues to be seen across the spectrum of today's dance and electronic music.
