Damian Kevitt, LA Biker, Dragged Onto Freeway Ramp By Hit-And-Run Driver (VIDEO)

LA Biker Dragged Onto Freeway, Left To Die

Biking in LA just got a whole lot scarier.

When Damian Kevitt, 36, was biking Sunday, he was hit by a minivan, dragged onto a freeway ramp and left for dead, the Glendale News Press reports. The car drove away, and authorities are currently looking for a male suspect, possibly driving a Toyota Sienna with a "for sale" sign on it.

Kevitt's left leg had to be amputated and his right leg might have to be as well, ABC reports. In all, he broke 20 bones, has undergone several surgeries and is expected to undergo more.

Kevitt was heading west on Zoo Drive toward the 5 Freeway at about 11:35 a.m. Sunday when the driver, stopped in heavy traffic, made a sudden left turn and struck him, the CHP told the Los Angeles Times.

"My son went onto the windshield and the hood," Kevitt's mother told ABC. "When the guy sped up, he was knocked underneath the van and his body was dragged almost a quarter of a mile onto the freeway.

"Thank goodness he was wearing a helmet or he'd be dead today," she said. "Even with a helmet, he's lucky to be alive."
