'The Vampire Diaries': How Will Elena React To Finding Jeremy? What's In Store For Klaroline?

'You'll Be Shocked'

After last week's "Vampire Diaries," it's hard to imagine Elena (Nina Dobrev) will be OK.

[SPOILER ALERT: Do not read on if you have not yet seen Season 4, Episode 14 of The CW's "The Vampire Diaries," titled "Down the Rabbit Hole."]

Silas drained Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) of his blood and the last audiences saw of him, he was motionless on the ground. Based on the promo for this week's episode, "Stand by Me" (Thursday, February 21 at 8 p.m. EST on The CW), it's pretty clear Elena is suffering from an extreme case of denial.

"She couldn't protect Jeremy and lost the only family member she had left," Dobrev told Entertainment Tonight. "She won't take it lightly. It's going to destroy her." But, the actress added, "It was very important that she lose Jeremy for what she's about to go through. It becomes a big part of her journey."

Meredith Fell (Torrey DeVitto) also returns in "Stand By Me" and meets Elena's wrath when asking her to turn over Jeremy's body means acknowledging the fact that her brother, her last remaining immediate family member, is dead.

"Losing Jeremy really, really, really changes Elena. Sometimes people recover from tragedy and sometimes they don't -- but it's a long journey for her," Dobrev explained to ET. "Elena's mourning peroid is much different than any I've ever seen depicted on TV before. She goes off the deep end and spirals downwards into a black hole of death and sadness and misery ... It's an Elena we haven't seen before, and you'll be shocked, quite frankly ... It's almost like she's a completely different person that you won't recognize to some degree."

Elena's not the only "Vampire Diaries" character who can't imagine life without Jeremy. Check out this sneak peek below of Bonnie (Kat Graham) finding out from Professor Shane (David Alpay) that Silas drained Jeremy of his blood.

But because their worlds are crumbling, "everyone comes together in this episode," Candice Accola, who plays Caroline, told TV Guide. "Whereas everyone is usually plotting together for evil, this time everyone is plotting together for good. There are some really beautiful moments."

As for the Caroline, Tyler and Klaus storyline -- in the wake of Klaus forcing Tyler to choose between death and running away -- Accola explained, "By no means was this a breakup for her. She's got a lot of hope in her and that's her new thing: figuring out how to have Klaus calm down and have Tyler come back. She's being very optimistic ...I feel like it's that first true love and right now it's very strong and unbreakable. Who knows as the characters grow up and grow older? But right now I don't see her being like, 'I'm going to ... get on OK Cupid and see what else is out there.'"

Check out The CW's official episode description for "Stand By Me" below:

THE TERRIBLE TRUTH - When Stefan (Paul Wesley) arrives back in Mystic Falls with Elena (Nina Dobrev) and Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen), Caroline (Candice Accola) is immediately worried about Elena's state of mind. Stefan reaches out to Dr. Fell (guest star Torrey DeVitto) and Matt (Zach Roerig) for help. Still on the island, Damon (Ian Somerhalder) relays somber news to Rebekah (Claire Holt), and is surprised at her reaction. Together, Damon and Rebekah learn an unexpected bit of recent history from Vaughn (guest star Charlie Bewley). Everyone is horrified when Bonnie (Kat Graham) reveals the rest of Shane's (guest star David Alpay) plan. Finally, after Damon does his best to help her, Elena comes up with a plan of her own.

"The Vampire Diaries" airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. EST on The CW.
