Rupert Murdoch: Topless Pictures On The Sun's Page 3 May Be Outdated

Murdoch Considers Banning Topless Pictures From Newspaper

Rupert Murdoch hinted on Sunday that he may consider ending The Sun's tradition of publishing pictures of topless women on Page 3.

The Sun infamously began featuring topless models on Page 3 in 1970, and has come under fire from opponents ever since. The Guardian reported that on Sunday, Murdoch responded to a tweet that called Page 3 "so last century." He tweeted back, "Page three so last century! You maybe right, don't know but considering. Perhaps halfway house with glamorous fashionistas."

A News International spokesperson had no comment when asked about the future of Page 3, but another person close to Murdoch echoed the media mogul's response. When asked what he made of Murdoch's tweet, Les Hinton — a former News International executive who resigned during the phone hacking scandal — replied, "@TheSunNewspaper great but Page 3 has jarred for ages."

The group No More Page 3, which has campaigned for the end of the practice since last year, cheered Murdoch's message over the weekend. "We’re really pleased that @rupertmurdoch might be thinking about dropping pg 3 – it’s down to everyone who signed the petition & supported us," the organization tweeted.
