New York Fashion Week Backstage Beauty: Luxe Lace Nail Art At Houghton Fall 2013 (PHOTOS)

A Much Better Use For Valentine's Day Lacy Underthings

The lace dress that I've hidden deep inside my closet will take on a new life thanks to Houghton's Katharine Polk. The New York-based designer's fall 2013 collection was filled with her usual array of evening gowns, dresses and suits, but punched up in rich jewel tones like sapphire, emerald and magenta. However, it was the the clever use of lace as nail art that caught my attention.

The models' nails were painted with OPI Samoan Sand (a creamy latte shade) and topped with the same luxurious lace in Polk's fall pieces. Nails were filed into a slightly pointed oval shape, playing up this ultra-feminine, textured manicure.

I remember celebrity manicurist Elle putting her spin on the sheer and sexy trend with this Jason Wu-inspired nail design. And many DIY nail art lovers have since laced their nails in black and white. But the nails backstage at Houghton have a fresher feel thanks to the champagne, mauve and blue colors found in the fabric.
