At 'House Of Cards' Premiere, Beau Willimon Discusses Washington Culture

'House Of Cards' Creator Discusses Washington Culture

At the Washington, DC premiere of Netflix's "House of Cards" series, writer and executive producer Beau Willimon detailed how the nation's capital has provided a backdrop for his work.

Tammy Haddad, attending the premiere for The Huffington Post, spoke with Willimon, who also co-wrote and produced 2011's "The Ides of March," and the play it was based on, "Farragut North." Both the Oscar-nominated film and Willimon's new series focus on the behind-the-scenes machinations of the country's political elite.

"The political world is a dark place," he said. "If you want to portray it accurately, authentically, you've got to turn out the lights from time to time."

He continued: "I certainly keep my eye on Washington all the time because often life is stranger than fiction."

The Huffington Post also spoke with series star Kate Mara, who plays up-and-coming reporter Zoe Barnes.
