Red Line Delays Caused By D.C. Metrorail Track Problem Near Judiciary Square (UPDATED)

WASHINGTON -- If the ongoing rain didn't make the Wednesday morning commute already bad, "an unscheduled switch repair" on Metrorail's Red Line near Judiciary Square made matters even worse.

The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority advised commuters of significant delays up and down the Red Line due to trains single tracking through downtown, between the Farragut North station and Union Station. Some Red Line trains turned back at the NoMa-Gallaudet and Farragut North stations to help alleviate train congestion in the impacted repair zone downtown.

Green Line trains were also packed due to overflow Red Line crowds between the Fort Totten and Gallery Place stations.

WMATA forecasted that delays would add 30-40 minutes to Red Line commutes. By 8:35 a.m., two-track operations were restored on the Red Line through downtown and residual delays were expected to continue for at least 45 minutes.
