A pregnant woman and a man were shot Sunday night when they were reportedly caught in crossfire outside an Overtown convenience store.

The incident happened near the intersection of NW 2nd Court and 17th Street, less than eight blocks from where the Second Saturday Art Walk was taking place in Wynwood during Art Basel.

There, witnesses said, the eight-months-pregnant mother-to-be was exiting the store when she and the man, said to be in his late teens, were struck by flying bullets.

"She was here inside the store, hanging out with her baby daddy," store manager Antar Jamhour said to NBC South Florida. "But the moment she left, there was shooting outside. And I think she was in the middle."

The woman's brother told WSVN he believed the intended target was a drug dealer.

"My sister was walking out of the store, she was behind the person they were aiming for," he said. "He was just selling drugs or whatever the case may be and they were trying to aim for him, but she happened to walk out of the store behind him and when they started shooting they shot her twice. Once in the head and once in the stomach which missed the baby."

Both victims were taken to the trauma unit at Jackson Memorial Hospital, where they were listed in critical-but-stable condition as of Sunday night. Both the woman and her unborn child are reportedly expected to survive.

Miami police have little to go on as the shooting investigation proceeds.

"We don't know if [the shooters] were in a vehicle, if he or she was in a car. We have very little information," said Miami Police spokeswoman Kenia Reyes.
