Pregnant Woman Shot On Thanksgiving By Spouse Gives Birth

A pregnant woman shot several times on Thanksgiving gave birth by Caesarean section.

It's a bit of good news for the unidentified Alabama woman, who was nearly killed by her estranged husband in an apparent murder-suicide over the weekend.

Marshall County District Attorney Steve Marshall, who's investigating the case, told Al.com that "as far as I know, mama and baby are doing OK."

The husband died on Saturday from a self-inflicted gunshot to the head, according to the Associated Press.

Doctors performed an emergency C-section on Friday on the expectant mom who was eight months pregnant, according to WHNT.

Police say that he pumped one bullet into his wife's face and four in her arm after an argument erupted during their holiday dinner, station WAFF reported. The couple had separated several months ago, but the wife reportedly invited her husband to her mobile home in Albertville, in the state's northeastern corner.

After reports of gunfire at around 7 p.m., Albertville police arrived to find both people with life-threatening injuries.

Their identity is expected to be revealed today, police said. Authorities didn't reveal if the baby is a boy or girl.
