Newborn Remains Found In Attic Of La Plata, Maryland Home

Terrifying Discovery Made In Attic

The body of a newborn child has been found in the attic of a southern Maryland home.

Authorities with the Charles County Sheriff's Office say that the La Plata homeowners were cleaning on Friday when they made the grisly discovery, WUSA reports.

“They said that they were cleaning out their attic, and they came across the badly decomposed remains of what appears to be a newborn,” said Diane Richardson of the Charles County Sheriff’s Office, according to CBS Baltimore.

The remains, which were stuffed inside a suitcase, were transported to the Chief Medical Examiner's office in Baltimore for an autopsy, the Associated Press reports.

Detectives are investigating the case, and say that a cause of death remains unknown.

The case could be linked to a similar one eight months ago, when a child's body was found in the trunk of a car, according to CBS Baltimore. That incident took place in nearby Calvert County.
