Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), chairwoman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, said Monday that former CIA Director David Petraeus will testify in front of her committee over the Sept. 11 attacks on the U.S. compound in Benghazi, Libya.
"I have no doubt now that we will need to talk with David Petraeus, and we will likely do that in closed session. But it will be done one way or another," she said on MSNBC's "Andrea Mitchell Reports."
Petraeus was scheduled to testify Thursday before he resigned last Friday after acknowledging an extramarital affair. Michael Morell, the acting CIA director, is scheduled to take Petraeus' place Thursday.
Feinstein said there was no evidence of a conspiracy linking the Petraeus scandal and Benghazi.
She said that she may subpoena a report on a recent trip to Libya. "I believe that Director Petraeus made a trip to the region shortly before this became public. I believe that there is a trip report,” she said. “We have asked to see the trip report. One person tells me he’s read it, and then we try to get it and they tell me it hasn’t been done. That’s unacceptable."
Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine), the ranking member on the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, said Tuesday that it was "absolutely imperative" that Petraeus testify.
