Let's face it, book titles can be confusing. Certainly, life would be easier (and more hilarious) if they described exactly what the books were about. Comedian Dan Wilbur is hoping to remedy this problem with his zingy project for literary nerds, Better Book Titles, in which he dreams up more appropriate titles for popular books.
In an e-mail to The Huffington Post, Wilbur explains his less-than-lofty inspiration for the series:
I wish I could tell you I was reading Kant while smoking a small pipe, chuckling to myself about what he should have used instead of "metaphysics and morals" as a title. Alas. I was playing Assassin's Creed 2, and at the end you attempt to kill the pope and I thought "this should be called 'Kill The Pope'!!!" That would be so controversial and weird. Then I started to think about all the books in my house could use less pretentious titles.
There are a ton of food titles in the mix, which piqued our interest. Wilbur said that although he owns cookbooks, he has yet to cook much from them. He offered his own better book title for the bunch: "Beautiful pictures of food you'll never make."
So far, Wilber has about 500 different "titles," some his and some reader submissions -- enough for a book of his own, "How Not to Read: Harnessing the Power of a Literature-Free Life."
