Former Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm, a self-described "die-hard Democrat," praised New Jersey Governor Chris Christie for his actions after Hurricane Sandy, calling him her "new favorite Republican" in an op-ed for Politico.
Granholm said she was "proud" of the GOP governor for putting "his people and his state above his party" and praising President Barack Obama for his work responding to Hurricane Sandy.
"So can we get some more Chris Christies up in here?" Granholm writes. "Can the D.C. Republicans look to the bombastic yet utterly human governor of New Jersey and think: Wow, if bipartisanship and pragmatic leadership works for him, maybe it’ll work in the U.S. Senate, too?"
In the aftermath of Sandy, Christie made it clear he wasn't taking the election into consideration while assessing New Jersey's need for help.
"I have a job to do. If you think right now I give a damn about presidential politics, then you don't know me," Christie said on "Fox & Friends" Tuesday morning.
"I have got a job to do here in New Jersey that is much bigger than presidential politics. And I could care less about any of that stuff," Christie said.
Christie and Obama surveyed some of the damaged from Sandy on Wednesday. The two took a helicopter tour and spoke with displaced residents in a storm shelter.
