'Showgirls The Musical' Opens Friday

Pick out your best Ver-sayce, Chicago: the one-weekend-only run of "Showgirls the Musical" is set to open Friday at Stage 773.

The show, dreamt up by John-Ryan Griggs and Chad D. Comer, is a camped-up, musical version of the so-bad-it's-really-awful cult film that, for better or worse, ended Elizabeth Berkley's film career.

Earlier this year, when the show was but a Kickstarter campaign, HuffPost Chicago spoke with the duo about their effort to set the sensationally sad stripper tale of Nomi Malone to music.

"The only thing funnier than a stripper lap-dancing her way to the top, who is trying to be taken seriously, is having her do so in a musical number. You can’t tell me that’s not hilarious!" Comer told HuffPost.

The production stars Eliza Morris as Nomi and Jamie Finkenthal as Cristal Connors. Tickets to the Friday show at Stage 773, 1225 W. Belmont Ave., are sold out, but tickets remain available for the Saturday and Sunday performances.
