Teacher Accused Of Having Sex With Student In Parking Lot

A high school teacher in Bryant, Ark., is accused of having sex with one of her students on multiple occasions, sometimes in the school's parking lot.

KATV reports that Courtney Speer, 31, turned herself in on Tuesday after police began to investigate the allegations. She has also resigned from her position as an English teacher at Bryant High School.

Police said Speer's victim is a 17-year-old former student of hers. The wife and mother is accused of having sex with the teen four times in the parking lot and at least twice at Speer's Benton, Ark., home, according to KATV. The relationship allegedly began in June.

"To hear this about a teacher who is in a position of trust over students, it is not just from a law enforcement perspective but from a parent's perspective, it is kind of disheartening," Lt. Kevin Russell with the Benton Police Department told KTHV.

The station reports that school resource officers alerted authorities about the alleged inappropriate relationship.

Speer, who received a two-out-of-five rating for "overall quality" on RateMyTeacher.com, faces six charges of sexual assault that could net her 6 to 30 years in prison if convicted.
