Since 1992, Family Circle magazine has held a cookie contest between the incumbent First Lady and the opposing candidate's spouse. Amazingly, these cookie contests have nailed the general election results in four of the last five elections. This year's winner is current First Lady, Michelle Obama.

The recipe that cinched the win? Mama Kaye's White and Dark Chocolate cookies, with 4,844 votes. But this was a close race: Ann Romney's M&M Cookies were beaten by only 287 votes (maybe it was the oatmeal?).

The magazine's contest has predicted the outcome of the election results in all but one of the last five election cycles, when Cindy McCain's oatmeal-butterscotch cookies beat Michelle Obama's citrusy shortbread cookies in 2008. But, as TIME notes, "Rumors swirled that McCain had cheated by copying a recipe off of a Hershey’s box."

Jezebel predicts that the cookie contest days are numbered. The article has a point, and brings up Hillary Clinton's famous quote about how she chose to pursue a career rather than "stay home and bake cookies." But, as of now, the contest is still going strong. Check out all the past cookies and winners over at Family Circle.
