One of the most important concepts in my book Naturally Thin unleash your skinny girl and free yourself from a lifetime of dieting is food noise.

What food noise is is that constant irritating and obsessive voice inside our heads constantly chattering about what we ate, what we didn't, that we were good for not eating or bad for eating something decadent.

This noise needs to turn into a food voice in order for us to learn how to be "naturally thin." We are so used to being emotional about food and constantly depriving ourselves then rebelling, that we are imprisoned in a world of never ending dieting.

Unlike any other practice, the more we diet, the worse at it we get. Having a food voice will unshackle you. Instead of saying you were bad or good for thinking of food as your best friend or enemy, think of it as just food.

If you want chocolate cake, accept it, eat it too, but your food voice will tell you what to eat at your next meal rather than your food noise telling you that you were bad and to go on a binge and be good the next day. Your food voice knows that no one ever got fat on one piece of chocolate cake and that no food is forbidden. Your food voice will choose a salad and salmon at the meal after the cake rather than the pasta.

Your food voice is your friend who always knows what to do, the one who knows what you really want, when you really want it and that you can have it all, just not at once.
