A scandal rocked the 2012 London Summer Olympics on Day 5 as eight female badminton players were disqualified following an investigation by the Badminton World Federation.

Two badminton doubles teams from South Korea, one from China and one from Indonesia were punished for intentionally not performing their best during matches Tuesday night.

In tennis, Serena Williams advanced to the quarterfinals after defeating Russia's Vera Zvonareva in an exciting match-up that showcased Williams' winning drive. Her sister Venus was not so lucky and was eliminated after losing her third-round match to Angelique Kerber of Germany. However, she still has a chance to redeem herself in women's doubles tomorrow.

Hungary's Daniel Gyurta took gold and set a world record in the men's 200m breaststroke with a final time of 2:07.28. Great Britain followed close behind, nabbing silver, and the bronze medal went to Japan.

Wednesday's events include qualifying rounds in archery, badminton, basketball, beach volleyball, boxing, equestrian, field hockey, handball, rowing, sailing, soccer, tennis, volleyball and water polo -- plus medal events in canoeing, cycling, diving, fencing, gymnastics, judo, shooting, swimming, table tennis and weightlifting.
