Bloomberg And Christie Cranky As Summer Heat Riles Up The City

Bloomberg And Christie Among The Many Cranky As Heat Wave Lingers

With New Yorkers continuing to bake in a record heat wave, a cranky mayor and equally irritated governor are showing signs that they just can't take the heat.

The New York Times reports on the recent pouty faces displayed by both Mayor Bloomberg and New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, as they attend their usual press conferences and greet their constituents in the muggy heat.

When speaking to the press about a water treatment emergency over the weekend, Christie, the ever blunt politician barked at a reporter from going off topic and blasted, "Did I say on topic? Are you stupid? On topic, on topic. Next question. Thank you all very much and I'm sorry for the idiot over there."

As for Bloomberg, when a reporter asked him about a fight occurring at McCarren Park, the mayor wasn't having it. He responded,, “I had no idea there was an incident. What was the incident? Did someone go swimming?"

After the reporter explained what had happened, Bloomberg added, “Well, what do you want me to say?"

“O.K., we’ll put a cop next to every lifeguard in the city,” he quipped sarcastically.

Also, during the opening ceremony for the McCarren Park Pool last week, Bloomberg also repeatedly referred to it as the "McClarren Park Pool" until the crowd corrected him.

Could the mayor's agitations stem from his desperate attempts to cool off in the blistering heat? Last Wednesday, members of Bloomberg's security detail were caught trying to plug a standard room air-conditioning unit into one of his black SUV's, an attempt that
had many New Yorkers scratching their heads.

Bloomberg has never seemed to be a fan of rising temperatures. In 2009, his SUV's were caught idling, blasting their air-conditioners from anywhere between 10 minutes to an hour, despite the mayor's heralded push for an anti-idling law.

But with the potential threat of a city-wide, electrical shutdown and already two fights (and one cop getting punched) at the newly opened McCarren Park Pool, it appears as though the heat is getting to most New Yorkers these days.
