Last season, Vera Wang shocked brides and fashionistas everywhere when she showed a bridal collection made up almost exclusively of black and nude gowns.
But at New York's recent bridal fashion week, which officially ended on Wednesday, many designers proved that white gowns -- though classic -- might be losing favor with modern brides. Wang, along with Oscar de la Renta and bridal couturiere Romona Keveza, showed rich red gowns on the runway. De la Renta's collection also included flowered gowns and, yes, many white and ivory classics.
Perhaps even more surprising than his colored gowns, however, was de la Renta's inclusion of a white bralette paired with wide-leg trousers. True, bridal pantsuits have been gaining steam as more and more states legalize same-sex marriage and heterosexual brides explore their options, but the inclusion of a bralette -- while playing to one of this season's top trends -- seems almost as unlikely to be worn by actual brides as the Kaviar Gauche g-string wedding dress that made a splash at Berlin Fashion Week earlier this year.
