Synetic, Studio Theaters Snag Most Helen Hayes Award Nominations (PHOTOS)

PHOTOS: Which Theater Productions Got Helen Hayes Award Nominations?

WASHINGTON -- Awards season is finally upon us! No, we're not talking about the Oscars -- which are over with in any regard -- we're talking about the Helen Hayes Awards nominations that were released this week.

The prestigious local theater awards, now in their 28th year, will be doled out April 23.

Studio Theatre and its Studio 2ndStage nabbed the most nominations at 19, with experimental dance company Synetic Theatre right behind with 15. As Washington City Paper's Jonathan L. Fischer noted, both are a stark contrast to the Kennedy Center's "Follies," which cost a whopping $7.3 million to mount and only garnered four nods.
