Week after week viewers have seen Skipper Bivins and the gang wrestle massive catfish out of the depths on "Hillbilly Handfishin'" (Sun., 8 p.m. EST on Animal Planet), but every now and then the fish manage to get their revenge.
Skipper and Jackson were taking their rookie handfishers out in the river when Skip got a nasty shock -- a catfish leapt out of the water and hit him straight in the jaw.
Being hit in the face is an occupational hazard for these guys -- remember Skip comforting Tabby the model after she was hit in the face? -- but as Skipper said, this one caught him off-guard: "I never see it coming!"
Newbie handfishers Sean and Shane were suitably awestruck. "When that fish come out of the water, and sucker-punched the Skipper," said Shane, "I was like, 'Damn! This sport is real!'"
Luckily for Skipper, as he was spitting blood into his hand, Las Vegas showgirl Amanda was there to lend a comforting hand. However, pretty quickly the expert noodler was able to shrug off his injury and carry on with the lesson.
