And the winner of Breckenridge's 22nd Annual Budweiser Select International Snow Sculpture Championship is:
Team Canada Quebec with their sculpture titled "Great Expectations," which also had the distinct honor of winning both the Artist's and People's Choice Awards.
Second place went to Germany for their "Dancing Screens" sculpture and third place went to Team Baltic (Latvia - Estonia) with "Discover the Edge of the World," according to GoBreck.com.
Fifteen teams of artists from ten different countries carved out a massive sculpture from a 12-foot-tall, 20-ton block of man-made snow without the use of any power tools or colored dyes. The teams began the sculpting process Tuesday, Jan. 24th at 11 a.m. and 65 hours later on Saturday, Jan. 28 the teams were finished with their work.
The awards ceremony will took place on Sunday at 3:30 p.m., but curious visitors are encouraged to come and view the process and the final works of snow art -- weather permitting, the event plans on keeping the sculptures up for viewing until Feb. 5th, according to the GoBreck contest website.
Even the knockdown of the sculptures on Feb. 5th promisses to be an entertaining sight -- all of the sculptures will be encircled in a ring of gasoline, the gasoline will be lit and the sculptures melted and knocked to the ground.
The Snow Sculptures are located in the area around the Riverwalk Center at 150 West Adams Avenue in Breckenridge.
