"Late Show With David Letterman": Lisa Lampanelli Out $50,000 Thanks To Westboro Baptist Church Protesters (VIDEO)

A Tweet Costs Lisa Lampanelli $50,000

Lisa Lampanelli had a cautionary tale about Twitter for David Letterman on "Late Show" (Weeknights, 11:35 p.m. EST on CBS) -- be careful what you tweet or you might find yourself having to put your money where your mouth was. For Lampanelli, it was $50,000.

At a show in Topeka, Kansas, Lampanelli found out about a protest heading her way. "I find out these freaks called the Westboro Baptist Church are going to protest me 'cause they hate gays and I have a semi-gay following," she explained. "I say, 'Hey for all of you who come out -- all you damn protesters -- I'm donating a grand to the gay cause of my choice.'"

She tweeted this, expecting maybe seven or eight protesters to show up. Instead, 50 of them showed up. But donating $50,000 to a worthy cause isn't all bad. "Made me look good and nobody called me fat on Twitter for a whole day," Lampanelli laughed. "So everybody wins."

"Late Show With David Letterman" airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. EST on CBS.
