Smithsonian National Zoo Lights Up For Holiday Display (PHOTOS)

Bright Lights, Holiday Sights At National Zoo (PHOTOS)

WASHINGTON -- Have you noticed the bright lights in Woodley Park? For the fifth year in a row, the Smithsonian's National Zoo is hosting ZooLights, a park-wide display that features thousands of LED lights on trees, walkways, buildings and the silhouettes of life-sized animals.

ZooLights, which started up the weekend of Nov. 25 and continues now from Dec. 16 through Jan. 1, also features a number of other attractions, including train rides and a train exhibit, gingerbread "habitat" displays and an iceless skating ring.

The event is free, but patrons are encouraged to bring gently worn winter clothing as part of the zoo's partnership with the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Washington. Donations like scarves, hats, gloves, mittens and coats will be accepted at donation boxes during regular zoo hours and during ZooLights at all three gift shops and the Mane Restaurant.
