The Roots: 'Undun' Short Film (VIDEO)

The Film Version Of The Roots' Lucky 13th Album

The Roots see your black cats and propped ladders and raise you one "knockout" 13th album. Undun, a concept album that reverse tracks the life of Redford Stephens, a fictional black kid in Philadelphia who runs drugs and is eventually killed, is "probably as good as its going to get," according to Roots drummer, controversial bandmaster, and prolific tweeter ?uestlove. Critics are on the same page, unafraid to use the words "lush" and "affecting" twice in one review. (Heroes!)

Now there's a newly strung-together version of the promotional films the Roots put together to hype Undun, featuring the main actor in an eerie, oversized Grim Reaper hoodie. Check out the visual tale of Redford Stephens (named for the song "Redford" by Sufjan Stevens, who cameos on the album) below. You can also read ?uestlove on "this particular brand of premature black-tinged expiry" in a post he wrote for HuffPost Culture. Undun is available now on iTunes.
