Chelsea Clinton's NBC Debut: December 12 On 'Rock Center'

Chelsea Clinton's NBC Debut

Chelsea Clinton will make her first appearance as an NBC News correspondent on "Rock Center With Brian Williams" on December 12.

The New York Times reports that she will be doing a segment on a nonprofit organization in Pine Bluff, Arkansas.

The piece appears to represent what NBC News has said will be her focus at the network. In November, NBC News president Steve Capus responded to critics of the hiring, saying, "I want to draw on her remarkable experience and have her tell stories that she feels strongly about."

Clinton first met with Capus to discuss the network's "Making a Difference" series in June. The network managed to keep their newest member under wraps for months, with Brian Williams joking that their first meeting was like "'The Godfather' without a gun hidden in the bathroom."

Clinton's newest post as an NBC News correspondent may have come as a surprise to members of the press -- and even her own mother. The former First Daughter is notorious for avoiding the media. But she explained the decision to join NBC as a conscious effort to use her name for the greater good.

In an email to the Times, she said, "I hope to make a positive, productive contribution, as cheesy as that may sound."
