Tom Cosgrove has designed and implemented successful communications and grassroots campaigns for more than two decades as an environmental activist, campaign manager, political media consultant, business and not-for-profit advisor.
In 1999, Tom formed The Cosgrove Group a strategic communications consulting firm. Relying on the power of groundbreaking research and out-of-the-box thinking, The Cosgrove Group has solved communications problems for Fortune 50 companies, national political figures, international unions, not-for-profit organizations and a Nobel Peace Prize winner.
Tom has worked as an organizer for the Coast Alliance, Field Director for the National Clean Air Coalition and Regional Representative for the Sierra Club; as a Campaign Manager and Field Director for presidential candidates Walter Mondale and Michael Dukakis; as a media consultant for Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro and Congressman Jim McGovern, among others; and as a consultant for non-profits like the White House Project, the Vietnam Veterans of America Foundation, the Ms. Foundation, the League of Conservation Voters, Qvisory and the Illinois Network of Charter Schools.
In 1999 he formed Citizens For Tolerance, which filed the first on-line U.S. Senate ethics complaint, demanding that the Senate investigate then Majority Leader Trent Lott’s ties to the Council of Conservative Citizens a white supremacist organization.
In 2004, as Program Director for the Democratic Convention, he designed the themes, format and recommended the speakers, including “a skinny state senator from Illinois.”
Tom is a 1979 graduate of St. Francis University in Loretto, Pennsylvania.
