Terry Newell

President, Leadership for a Responsible Society

Terry Newell is currently director of his own firm, Leadership for a Responsible Society. His work focuses on values-based leadership, ethics, and decision making. He is also an adjunct faculty member at the Federal Executive Institute, a residential executive education center for the federal government here in Charlottesville. A former Air Force officer, Terry also served as Director of the Horace Mann Learning Center, the training office of the U.S. Department of Education and was Dean of Faculty when he served full-time at the Federal Executive Institute. Terry’s is co-editor and author of The Trusted Leader: Building the Relationships That Make Government Work and the author of Statesmanship, Character and Leadership in America and also a book of essays, Reflections on America. His most recent book is: To Serve with Honor: Doing the Right Thing in Government. Terry has a Masters Degree in Teaching and an Ed. D. in Educational Administration. He enjoys doing stained glass panels and gardening. He is a strong believer in the power of a positive vision of the future. As Bloody Mary said in the play, South Pacific: "You gotta have a dream if you wanna have a dream come true."
