Saundra Schimmelpfennig

Over the last five years Saundra has provided clear and thoughtful advice to donors. Before becoming a blogger, Saundra was a leading expert in the post-2004 tsunami recovery efforts in Thailand. Working on the ground in Thailand for four years, she saw the impact of aid from all perspectives: villagers, government officials, religious leaders, aid agency staff and directors, the United Nations, and various donors. As founding director of the Disaster Tracking Recovery Assistance Center (D-TRAC), Saundra was regularly was sought out by individual donors, philanthropists, foundations, and corporations for advice on donating to the recovery efforts. Following her work with D-TRAC, she coordinated all of the post-tsunami recovery projects in Thailand for the American Red Cross. This position gave Saundra an insider understanding of the pressures, priorities, and factors affecting aid agency decision making.
