Recent Maine Gubernatorial candidate

Rosa Scarcelli is a senior business executive and skilled political candidate whose expertise focuses on common sense leadership, strategic development, putting plans in motion and bringing concepts to closure. She has a track record in debt restructuring, asset management, building and growing business’. Rosa is well known for her creativity, political savvy, leadership and expertise in public/private partnerships.

Ms. Scarcelli’s career began in 1992 with a focus on real estate development, investment and asset management. Since then she has become successful in managing and developing quality affordable housing. She has also been recognized for her restoration and reuse of historically significant properties, assistance and oversight of neighborhood revitalization, and involvement in downtown reinvestment.

Ms. Scarcelli serves as Owner and CEO of Stanford Management, LLC based in Portland, Maine. She currently manages 82 affordable housing complexes in Connecticut, Maine, and Pennsylvania and continues to grow Stanford’s affordable housing portfolio. Stanford Management was featured in Affordable Housing magazine as one of the top 50 Affordable Housing Owners and top 10 Companies Completing Acquisitions in May 2007.

Ms. Scarcelli’s extensive development experience includes both new construction and adaptive reuse of historic properties for residential, commercial, and retail uses. She has managed the development of over $500 million in assets located throughout the Northeast and Midwest.

In the course of developing these properties Rosa has worked with state agencies to secure tax credits, large financing institutions for conventional debt, and institutional investors such as Chevron, Lehman Brothers and Sun America.

Most recently, Ms. Scarcelli was a Gubernatorial Candidate for Governor of Maine. Her campaign, ROSA FOR MAINE, was active from July 2009 through the primary election on June 8, 2010.

As a Start-up Democratic primary candidate, Ms. Scarcelli received the 4th most votes out of 11 candidates in both parties. She finished less than 1% point from 2nd place on the Democratic side against 3 seasoned candidates who all formerly held political office. She entered the race with little name recognition and no political base assembling assembling a first-class team of professionals, political newcomers, and volunteers who ran a successful grassroots campaign. They engaged a statewide constituency of voters from a broad variety of backgrounds. She wrote a comprehensive policy book titled Maine Rising detailing a plan for creating 50,000 jobs in 10 years and moving Maine forward. Her campaign platform centered on non-partisan common sense solutions to ensure government efficiency, create jobs, and invest in education.

Ms. Scarcelli continues to maintain active involvement in civic and political activities and organizations. Some of her past and present affiliations are:

- Board Member; Ingraham, A Non-profit Corporation with a $10 million dollar budget and 250 employees. They were the recipient of the 2004 Outstanding Leadership Award.
- Board Member; Waynflete School; Alumni Council, Annual Fund Chair.
- Member; Maine Women’s Forum and International Women’s Forum since 2004.
- Member; Young Presidents’ Organization, New England Chapter, Board Member 2008-2009, New Member Recruitment Chair, Women’s International Network (WIN).

Ms. Scarcelli graduated from Bowdoin College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art and Art History. Her more recent educational endeavors have included participation in the Executive MBA Program with The Committee of 200 at the Wharton Business School and The Harvard Business School Executive MBA program.

Ms. Scarcelli lives in Portland, Maine. She is married with three children ages 14, 11, and 10. She enjoys skiing, boating, running, and yoga.
