Owner-Mindful Life Counseling

Nanci Rose-Ritter holds the graduate level Certificate in Trauma Counseling and is founder of Mindful Life Counseling in the Finger Lakes region of upstate New York. A trained classical ballet dancer who'd graduated from the well-known Interlochen Arts Academy, Rose later earned a BA in therapeutic dance and now incorporates various arts modalities, nature awareness and meditative therapies into imaging techniques for generating left and right brain balancing.

Rose has been a serious student of meditation and Eastern philosophies since the 1970s, receiving her early intensive training from Anthony Damiani (a close student of Paul Brunton) at Wisdom's Goldenrod Center for Philosophic Studies, also in New York State. Through Damiani, Rose met His Holiness the Dalai Lama and began her more earnest Buddhist studies. She took two extended trips to India where Rose worked with photographer Bill Warren on the book, Living Tibet: The Dalai Lama in Dharamsala (Snow Lion Publications; 1995; foreword by H.H. the Dalai Lama).

Rose has done extensive research on the monastic dances of Tibet, presenting a research paper on the Gelug tradition in Hong Kong as a representative of the Society of Dance History Scholars, and at Tibet House in New Delhi, India. She has also been published in professional journals on this topic, including the Year of Tibet issue of Cho Yang Magazine.

As a result of her research, Rose became a personal dharma student of the Tibetan Dzogchen master, Garje Khamtrul Rinpoche, of Dharamsala, who Their friendship has lasted over 23 years.
