Peace Educator, Eco-Minister, Science & Spirituality
Leonisa Ardizzone is the founder and president of Storefront Science, a science exploration space in Northern Manhattan. She has more than 20 years experience in education, specifically in science education and peace education. While running Storefront Science (www.storefrontscience.com) - her latest effort to promote science literacy and learning which has been acclaimed by New York Magazine, Time Out New York, Thirteen.org and others - she also consults, writes and leads professional develop seminars.
Previously, Leonisa was the president of the Salvadori Center, a professor at Adelphi and Fordham Universities, and started her education career as a middle/high school science teacher working with high-risk youth in Seattle, Ithaca, and New York City. She has degrees in biology, science education, and a Doctorate in International Educational Development from Teachers College, Columbia University.
Leonisa has published a book about her work with NYC youth Gettin' my Word Out: Voices of Urban Youth Activists (SUNY Press, 2007) as well as numerous articles and book chapters in such journals as Current Issues in Comparative Education, Peace & Change, and Taboo: The Journal of Culture and Education.
Leonisa is also a jazz musician, single mother, and avid traveler.
