Harvey Molotch

Harvey Molotch writes on a wide array of topics, including city growth and urban security as well as product design and development. He is Professor of Sociology and Metropolitan Studies at New York University,

His awards include prizes for Lifetime Achievement in two fields: Urban Studies and in the Sociology of Technology and the Environment. His most recent book is Against Security: How We Go Wrong at Airports, Subways, and other Sites of Ambiguous Danger (Princeton University Press). Prior books include Urban Fortunes (with John Logan), named distinguished contribution to the discipline by the American Sociological Association; Where Stuff Comes From, winner of the Komarovsky Award. He recently edited (with Laura Noren), Toilet: Public Restrooms and the Politics of Sharing.

Before coming to NYU, Molotch was Centennial Professor at the London School of Economics and Chair of Sociology at the University of California, Santa Barbara; he has also been visiting professor at Bocconi, Northwestern, Essex, Lund, and Stony Brook universities.
