Executive Director, GRIOT Circle

Glen-Michael Francis, GRIOT’s Executive Director, began his career at the New York Association for New Americans (NYANA), advocating for the rights of immigrants and refugees.  He served on the Board of District Council 1707’s Local 215 and played a collaborative role in the Lesbian and Gay Issues Committee of DC 37, as well as a founding role in Pride at Work, and co-facilitated the first recognized AFSCME and the AFL-CIO LGBT contingent at the March on Washington in 1994. Mr. Francis helped co-found the Caribbean-identified Lesbian and Gay Alliance (CiLGA), the then-LGBT Immigration and Asylum Rights Task Force. He also served on the steering committee of the International Lesbian & Gay Association (ILGA), and as a Development Associate for Doctors Without Borders, MSF.  Glen became the Program Director of GRIOT Circle in 2002, rising through the ranks to become the agency’s Executive Director in 2008 after the passing of its founder and then-Executive Director, Regina V. Shavers. 

Glen holds an M.B.A. from City University of New York, with certificates in Business Communication from PITTI, Gudulampenfribeken, the Netherlands, and Technology Certification from NTI, Belleville, Ontario, Canada.
