Gary R. Gaffney M.D. is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the College of Medicine, in the University of Iowa. His interest in performance enhancing drugs originates from research, discussions, and compositions compiled over the years with professionals, friends, students, athletes, and research assistants concerning the use and abuse of anabolic agents in sports. He sees patients, teaches medical students and resident doctors, and attempts to carry out research on various topics in Iowa City.
Gaffney graduated from the University of Iowa (B.S. and M.D.) then trained in psychiatry at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore in the 80s where he was often mistaken for Jim Palmer. He has published professional journal articles on Autism, Tourette Disorder, psychopharmacology, and recently on Gene Doping. Despite much encouragement, he has never used human growth hormone to stay young.
