Campaign Strategist; former executive director, Health Care for America Now

Ethan Rome is a campaign consultant and former executive director of Health Care for America Now (HCAN), the national grassroots coalition that ran a $60 million five-year campaign to pass, protect, and promote the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Prior to HCAN, Rome directed national communications for the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME). For nearly 30 years Rome has been a leader, coalition builder, strategic communicator and field director for legislative, political and issue campaigns, including efforts to protect Medicare and Medicaid, win better wages and benefits for child care and home care providers, and increase state revenues to support public services. Earlier in his career, in Connecticut Rome served as legislative and policy counselor to Speaker of the House Thomas D. Ritter, built one of the first comprehensive political operations for a state legislative caucus in the country, co-directed the historic campaign to win a state income tax, and helped develop cutting-edge, bilingual voter registration programs in the Puerto Rican community. In 2013 Rome was featured on Moyers & Company as one of the 19 “Activists to Watch,” leading grassroots movements to change America.
