Dave Regan

President, SEIU United Healthcare Workers West

Dave Regan is the president of SEIU United Healthcare Workers West, a union that represents more than 150,000 healthcare workers in California. He is also an executive board member of the 2.1 million-member Service Employees International Union (SEIU), the fastest growing union in North America.

In 2011 Regan was elected president alongside more than 300 union members to form the largest, democratically-elected union executive board. The newly elected board is focused on improving healthcare in California including reducing the prevalence of manageable and preventable chronic diseases, like heart disease, asthma, obesity and diabetes, that drive healthcare costs and lead to poor quality of life in California. To that end the board launched “Let’s Get Healthy California” this year. Under this banner healthcare workers will negotiate contracts, introduce legislation and work with partner organizations with the goal of improving the quality of healthcare, lowering healthcare costs and improving healthcare jobs.

SEIU-UHW is committed to building a team of 10,000 healthcare providers to launch a massive education program in the state focused on wellness and preventive care, to help prepare for the increasing healthcare demands of an aging population and to work with California Gov. Jerry Brown to make it the policy of the state to reduce the incidence of chronic disease.
