Danielle Kaufman, M.D.

Danielle Kaufman, M.D., was a radiologist at Kaiser Permanente in Santa Rosa, Calif., where she was chief of nuclear medicine and a radiation safety officer for the hospital. She was board certified by the American Board of Radiology and worked for Kaiser for eight years.

She received her medical degree from the Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, Mich., graduating in the top third of her class and receiving the honor of distinction in biomedical research for work done in reproductive endocrinology. She served as a tutor in biostatistics and epidemiology.

Dr. Kaufman completed an internship and diagnostic radiology residency in Grand Rapids, Mich., through Michigan State University, where she completed research in neural networks. She also finished a one-year fellowship in vascular and interventional radiology at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Mich. A graduate of Michigan State University with a bachelor of science degree in psychology, she participated in social psychology research as an undergraduate.

During her career, Dr. Kaufman worked for three years in private practice for a multispecialty group practice in Defiance, Ohio; she served as a staff radiologist at Muskegon Mercy Hospital in Muskegon, Mich., for five years, serving as chief of vascular and interventional radiology for two years.

Her personal interests included cooking, computers, electronics, music and sewing.

Dr. Kaufman lived and participated in the gay community for three years, starting in the fall of 2009, and transitioned to living as a woman full-time on Oct. 12, 2012. She legally changed her name to Danielle Kaufman on Jan. 9, 2013. Sadly, she was found dead at her Santa Rosa home on Sept. 30, 2013. She was 53.
