Claire Bernard

Claire is the President of the Mariposa Foundation, a private family foundation. She is in charge of grant making and operations, and is involved in the endowment’s investments. The Foundation gives anonymously, concentrating on humanitarian, environmental, and New York City organizations. Claire's dedication to better serving grantees has led her to conduct site visits around the world including such places as the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, Kenya, Bangladesh, Morocco, Liberia, and Colombia. Nationally, she has worked closely with those effected by Hurricane Katrina and the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, and is deeply engaged with Hurricane Sandy recovery. She serves on the Board of Trustees for the Mariposa Foundation and the NRDC, and is an Oxfam GB Ambassador. Claire has written about the nonprofit world for publications such as Vogue, Huffington Post, and vanityfair.com where she had a column sharing 1-Click tips of how readers can get involved and detailing her visits to mountaintop mining removal in Virginia, Deepwater Horizon oil spill site, and lobbying in DC. She received a BA with honors from Brown University and a MFA in writing from Columbia University.
