Cindy Stein Urbanc

Cindy Stein Urbanc CNM, MSN, MPH began her career as a direct entry midwife after attending the Oregon School of Midwifery. After several years of homebirth practice, she then completed an MSN in Midwifery from Columbia University as well as an MPH with a specialty in Forced Migration there as well. She has worked clinically in homes, birth centers, community health centers, and tertiary care hospitals for over a decade both domestically and abroad. She was involved in the strategic planning for social media, mHealth and innovation growth within Kaiser Permanente in addition to having been an active clinician at Kaiser Hawaii. Cindy is currently the Coordinator for Maternal Child Health Programs for Real Medicine Foundation, a global NGO currently working in 13 countries. Her focal projects include integrating Respectful Maternity Care in service delivery, maternal mortality reduction, midwifery training in low resources nations and mHealth tool development and implementation. She is currently also pursuing a PhD in Nursing at the University of Hawaii at Manoa with her thesis on the same aspects of maternal mortality reduction that intersect with her existing professional roles. She is a member of the peer review committee for the Journal of Midwifery and Women’s Health and the treasurer for the Hawaii affiliate of the ACNM. Most importantly, she also is the mother of four children.
