Cindy Auten

Cindy Auten serves as general manager for Mobile Work Exchange (previously Telework Exchange), an online community and a public-private partnership focused on demonstrating the value of mobility and telework, and serving the emerging educational and communication requirements of the Federal mobile/telework community. The organization facilitates communication to more than 26,000 Federal IT directors/managers, CIOs, CHCOs, telework managing officers, and key stakeholders – all focused on building a sustainable and effective mobile workforce.

Since the company’s inception in April 2005, Auten has managed the overall operations of Mobile Work Exchange, including the development of The Mobile Worker – an online and print newsletter focused on telework and mobility. In addition, Auten successfully manages the bi-annual Mobile Work Exchange Town Hall Meetings, various online training webinars, the annual Tele-Vision Awards programs, as well as serves as the author of numerous telework and mobility-related research studies.

As an example of event successes, the bi-annual Town Hall Meetings bring together a diverse set of stakeholders, including legislators, government agency telework proponents and managers, industry supporters, and affiliated organizations – all working to achieve demonstrable progress in this area. As evidence of the growing interest in this topic, more than 900 professionals attended the Fall 2012 Mobile Work Exchange Town Hall Meeting.

Auten is a frequent speaker and subject matter expert on telework and mobility. She has recently spoken at the NIH Telework Festival, Federal Mine Safety and Health Review Commission, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Central Office telework pilot kick-off event, the HR Technology in the Federal Workplace conference, and various Mobile Work Exchange events. Auten has also been featured discussing telework and mobility in The Washington Post and on Federal News Radio, WTOP, and NBC4 News as well as a number of other broadcast, IT, and government media outlets. Discussion topics include the status of telework and mobility, best practices and lessons learned, telework eligibility, managing a mobile workforce, a review of Capitol Hill initiatives, and available telework and mobility resources for organizations, interested teleworkers, and current teleworkers.
