Carol Muske-Dukes is a poet (author of seven books of poems, the most recent, SPARROW, was a 2003 National Book Award finalist), four novels, (most recently, CHANNELING MARK TWAIN) and two collections of essays. She is a professor of English and Creative Writing at the University of Southern California and founding director of the graduate program in Creative Writing and Literature there. She has written reviews and essays for the NY Times Book Review and Op Ed, and was Poetry Columnist (Poet's Corner) at the LA Times Book Review for many years. She founded a prison writing program in NY State prisons called Art Without Walls/Free Space.
