Rep. Ben Ray Luján

Since he was sworn into Congress in January 2009, Rep. Luján has worked to get our economy back on track, reform health insurance, and stand up for consumers.

Rep. Luján serves on the Energy and Commerce Committee, where he continues to build on his work to promote a clean energy economy and support efforts to expand the mission of our national labs in an effort to create good jobs for our communities. With his previous assignment as a member of the Science, Space, and Technology Committee, Rep. Luján has been an advocate for improving science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) curriculum in our schools to ensure that our children are prepared to compete in a global economy.

Rep. Luján serves as co-chair of the bipartisan Technology Transfer Caucus, which he helped create in an effort to bring together members who share the goal of strengthening our economy by helping move technological innovations from national labs and universities to the marketplace. He is also co-chair of the Science and National Labs Caucus and First Vice Chair of the Hispanic Caucus. At the beginning of 2013, Rep. Luján was appointed to the House Democratic Leadership as a Chief Deputy Whip

Prior to his election to Congress, Rep. Luján served as Chairman of the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission, New Mexico’s deputy state treasurer, and the New Mexico Cultural Affairs Department's director of administrative services and chief financial officer.
