Bashir Ahmad Gwakh

Afghan journalist

Bashir Ahmad Gwakh is an award winning journalist from Afghanistan. Before his astronomical talent earned him the prestigious Fulbright scholarship in 2007 and he moved to U.S. to peruse his Masters degree in Media and Communication, he had already served on various journalistic posts.

Prior to joining Radio Free Europe’s Mashaal Radio as a broadcaster, he worked as news editor for NATO/ISAF newspaper, Azadey Ghag. Working as an investigative journalist, Bashir covered political and human rights issues for IWPR (Institute for War and Peace Reporting) in Kabul and Pajhwok Afghan News) in Nangarhar. In addition to writing columns for various local magazines, he has also served as chief-editor for Saanga, a highly acclaimed political and news magazine in Afghanistan.

During his vast journalism career, Bashir has trained spokespersons for Afghan political parties at Sayar Media & Communications.

He has been published in local and international media outlets and presently blogs at AfghanCorner to generate and share ideas about the current situation in Afghanistan. As a native Afghan, he brings more knowledge and a broader perspective of current affairs in ‘once-ignored’ country and its surrounding areas to the readers, especially those who have not been to Afghanistan.

Bashir recently published his Pashto poetry collection under the title Your Memories Are My Companions.
