Courage Is Underrated

Life throws all of us some kind of curve ball at some point. How do you handle adversity when it comes your way? Recently, and more than ever before I have felt that courage (in all its forms) is underrated, undervalued and underutilized. This might be due to the fact that I'm living the life of an entrepreneur. Although this is a lifestyle choice, it's not always easy or predictable. Courage in the face of adversity has made me stronger. But more importantly, courage has helped me find a real purpose in my career and I feel like I've found my calling.

Pro Surfer Bethany Hamilton is no stranger to adversity. At the age of 13 Bethany was surfing as she usually did with her best friend Alana Blanchard in Hawaii when a shark attacked her and bit off her arm.

As traumatic as that experience was Bethany healed and was back in the water after a matter of months. Most of us, including me, wouldn't get back in the water. But Bethany's fear of never being able to do the sport that she loves trumped her fear of another shark attack.

Her story is so incredible that a few years ago Sony Pictures made a movie about her called Soul Surfer. Now in her twenties and recently married, Bethany continues to inspire people of all ages who watch her surf and hear her stories of perseverance. Watch the full episode with Bethany here and get inspired to do work that matters even when it might be scary.
