Vanity Fair’s ode to General Leia Organa is pure perfection.
The magazine released images of the four exclusive Summer 2017 covers shot by Annie Leibovitz featuring the cast of “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.”
The covers celebrate the “Star Wars” franchise’s 40th anniversary this week and mark the first time the publication has released alternate “Star Wars” covers.
Each of the four covers is dedicated to a specific subset of “Star Wars” character. One includes Daisy Ridley (who plays Rey) and Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) while another includes three members of the First Order: Gwendoline Christie (Captain Phasma), Domhnall Gleeson (General Hux), and Adam Driver (Kylo Ren).
The other two covers are explosive for different reasons.
As one Twitter user noted, the cover that shows Oscar Isaac’s Poe Dameron, John Boyega’s Finn, and Kelly Marie Tran’s Rose Tico features only “Star Wars” actors of color. That cover also features BB-8.
The coup de grace of the covers is obviously the tribute to Carrie Fisher, who died in December 2016. It features Fisher as Leia ― the princess, general and rebel we all know and love ― standing strong in a gorgeous high-collared coat.
