New York Daily News Urges Donald Trump To Quit Campaign: 'This Isn't A Joke Anymore'

Newspaper trashes presidential candidate for "toying with political bloodshed."

The New York Daily News used Wednesday’s front page to call on Donald Trump to abandon his presidential campaign, and urge the Republican Party to toss him out if he won’t go on his own.

The newspaper said the GOP presidential nominee was “toying with political bloodshed” on Tuesday when he said “Second Amendment people” could do something about Hillary Clinton and/or the judges she appoints, if she is elected president.

While the Daily News has previously mocked Trump as a “clown” on its front page, Wednesday’s paper took a much more serious tone:

The campaign claimed Trump’s incendiary comments were referring to the “great political power” of voters, and were not a call for the assassination of his political rivals.

But the Daily News wasn’t buying it.

“In the event that Trump fails to abandon his candidacy ― as he seems determined to ― the Republican Party, including vice presidential nominee Mike Pence, must instead abandon Trump for toying with political bloodshed,” an editorial inside the paper read.

Last month, the Daily News accused Trump of treason after he called on Russia to hack Clinton’s emails. The paper has also called him a racist, “stupid” and mocked his low level of support among black voters.

Editor’s note: Donald Trump regularly incites political violence and is a serial liar, rampant xenophobe, racist, misogynist and birther who has repeatedly pledged to ban all Muslims — 1.6 billion members of an entire religion — from entering the U.S.
